Introduction
The NCFE CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning is a nationally recognised course designed to support individuals who are interested in a career as a teaching assistant, or to develop current skills to progress further within education.
This A-Level equivalent course provides you with an understanding of the knowledge needed when working directly with children in a school environment. It will enable you to gain an understanding of key elements including child development, safeguarding, communication and building professional relationships.
The Swaledale Alliance is an approved body to deliver this programme certified by NCFE CACHE.
About the Course
The programme, running across the academic year, is assessed through written assignments and in-school skills assessments. Learners are expected to gather a detailed portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their understanding in 11 units:
- Schools and colleges as organisations
- Support health and safety in the learning environment
- Understand how to safeguard children and young people
- Develop professional relationships with CYO and adults
- Understand how children and young people develop
- Support positive behaviour in CYP
- Support CYP during learning activities
- Support English and Maths
- Support the use of ICT in the learning environment
- Support assessment for learning
- Engage in personal professional development
This qualification has a Total Qualification Time of 350 hours which includes 210 guided learning hours. The knowledge evidence, feedback sessions and supported work experience contribute to these qualification hours.
Our facilitators will guide learners through each unit at weekly knowledge sessions held at the Swaledale Alliance. On completion of assignments and assessments, learners will receive detailed feedback and support to ensure they fully meet the qualification’s requirements.
Our Sponsored Programme
Each year a number of our schools offer sponsored placements to applicants. What does this mean?
The placement school will fund the cost of the course, in school training and on-going support. ie. They will pay £1,650 course fee.
In return, you will commit to volunteering in the school for the equivalent of two days per week for the academic year. This gives you excellent, first-hand experience of school life over the period of a year. It also allows you to become a valued member of the teaching support team. Many of our candidate go on to secure jobs within the school they completed their placement in.
You will still be responsible for the registration fee and (refundable) admin fee of £190.
Access to our sponsored programme is by application and informal interview. Applicants must hold GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above and be over 18 years old.
Your placement is at risk if you do not meet the course requirements, DBS checks, fail to attend the knowledge session or complete the set assignments.
