Are you 18 or over and looking to make a positive step towards your future?  Interested in becoming a Teaching Assistant and making a real difference in the classroom?

If so, the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning could be the perfect course for you.


About the Course

This nationally recognised qualification, equivalent to an A-Level, is designed for those who want to work alongside teachers to support pupils’ learning and development in schools.

Delivered by The Swaledale Alliance, an approved NCFE CACHE centre, the course provides both the knowledge and practical experience needed to begin or progress a career as a Teaching Assistant.

  • Duration: Full academic year
  • Delivery:
    • Weekly face-to-face support sessions
    • Monday evenings, 5:00–7:00pm
    • Held at Brompton-on-Swale CE School

Real Classroom Experience

To successfully complete the qualification, you’ll gain valuable real work experience in a school setting.

  • Minimum recommendation: 2 days per week (or equivalent)
  • Support provided to help secure a suitable placement

Assessment & Support

You’ll be fully supported throughout the course with:

  • Regular school visits from qualified assessors
  • Ongoing marking, feedback, and guidance
  • Weekly support during evening sessions

Enabling you to complete your portfolio of evidence and skills to successfully achieve the qualification.

⏱️ You should expect to dedicate around 5 hours per week to study and coursework outside sessions.


Entry Requirements

  • Minimum age: 18
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C or above are preferred
  • Applicants working towards these qualifications will also be considered
  • Enhanced DBS clearance required 

Course Fees

Total cost: £1,650
This includes:
✔ Course portfolio
✔ Weekly face-to-face teaching sessions
✔ Personal tutor support
✔ Assignment marking and feedback from practising teaching staff
✔ Assistance in securing a school placement

Additional costs:

  • £140 non-refundable NCFE CACHE registration fee
  • £50 administration deposit
  • Stationery not included

Sponsored Placements Available

Some learners may be eligible for a sponsored placement, where the school pays the course fee* (subject to interview). Registration and deposit fees still apply.
