EYFS - Experience Based Route Status

EYFS EBR Advert (1)

The experience-based route (EBR) is a way for experienced early years practitioners who do not have a full and relevant level 3 qualification to be able to count in the adult:child ratios at level 3.

The experience-based route has been introduced by the Department for Education as they know there are lots of skilled and talented people working in the early years sector who do not hold a qualification which allows them to count in the adult:child ratios at level 3. It’s a way to recognise that people with the right level of experience and knowledge can offer a great deal to the education and care of young children.

Support from the Swaledale Alliance

The Swaledale Alliance offers a comprehensive support package to help EYFS settings navigate the experience-based route process enabling current staff to gain EBR status and be included in the adult:child ratios at level 3.

To reduce the confusion surrounding the EBR and alleviate planning and time pressures on EYFS supervisors, the Swaledale Alliance offers the following support:

Preparation

  • Work with EYFS Supervisor to identify staff able to complete this route. Outline guidance, eligibility and expectations.
  • Support the completion of skills review and initial assessment
  • Action plan, assessment record and hours log for Supervised Practice Period

Supervised Practice Period

  • Support target setting and knowledge development
  • CPD covering hard to evidence criteria and knowledge gaps
  • Interim review visits and observations as required

End of Supervised Practice Period

  • Complete final assessment & required paperwork to recognise EBR status achievement and compliance.
