Peer Support Teacher
Matthew Scott, Masham C of E (VA) Primary School
Matthew is currently the Senior Teacher at Masham Church of England (VA) Primary School. He started his teaching career in Year 4 before spending 2 years in Year 2 and Brompton-on-Swale C of E Primary School before moving to teach Y5/6 at Masham. Having experience across the primary age range has allowed him to develop a strong curriculum knowledge and an understanding of the importance of clear structure and routines, backed up by positive reinforcement and the belief that every child can achieve, and exceed, their potential.
Matthew has led mathematics for a number of years in different settings, including across a federation of schools, and has gained a thorough understanding of the progression of skills in mathematics from Early Years through to Year 6. He works collaboratively with outside agencies, such as Maths Hubs and the local authority, to continually improve standards in Mathematics within school. In addition to this, he is also a KS1 moderator for the local authority which provides lots of exciting opportunities for sharing of good practice.
Alongside his role as class teacher and senior leader, he is also a School Based Mentor for the High Force Education SCITT and has successfully mentored NQTs in previous years. This has given him valuable experience in coaching and mentoring teachers in the very early stages of their career.
