Peer Support Teacher
Kirsti-Anna Hume, Kirkby Fleetham Primary School
Kirsti is a passionate and creative KS2 teacher at Kirkby Fleetham Primary School, and English Subject Leader across two schools. Her strengths lie in providing rich learning experiences, driven by challenge, creativity, imagination and curiosity, enabling children (and staff) to take ownership of their learning. Kirsti has worked professionally as a writer, and has a deep love of language and literature, which she communicates through thoughtfully planned, cross-curricular topics and whole-class texts. She recently led a school improvement project to implement a whole-class ‘mastery model’ for teaching English in small mixed-age classes as part of her NPQML. She believes in enabling children to explore their own voices as writers, thinkers and learners, through an integrated and meaningful creative curriculum, frequently drawing on her experience as a songwriter and musician.
Kirsti has experience teaching in a large variety of educational settings and year groups, and takes a reflective and inspiring approach to supporting and coaching other teachers and delivering CPD. She has a strong personal interest in children’s social and emotional development, and is currently training as a leader for Mentally Healthy Schools.
Kirsti's subject specialism is English; in particular integrating reading, writing and grammar skills through whole-class texts. Differentiation for teaching mixed-age classes (including SEN) is also a specialism, along with art, music and anything to do with creative curriculum or cross-curricular planning.
