Peer Support Teacher
Emma Kelly, Federation of Abbey Schools
Specialism - English
Since qualifying in 2012, Emma has taught across the KS2 age range and spent five years as maths leader. Currently, she is the Year 6 teacher and English subject leader at Federation of Abbey Schools.
Providing children with an exciting, engaging and well-balanced curriculum is extremely important to her and thrives on creating opportunities which allow children to become fully absorbed and immersed in their learning across all areas of the curriculum. Emma believes it is essential to equip children with life skills such as resilience and the ability to see the positives in making mistakes. Growth Mindset Theory is a concept which she incorporates into daily teaching practice and she has also led a lot of staff CPD training around this concept.
She has completed the Middle Leadership Development Programme and Osiris Outstanding Teaching Programme. Both of which have also further deepened her understanding of improving teaching and learning through engagement, feedback, questioning and challenge. She is incredibly proud to say that she was personally invited to ceremonies at Downing Street and Buckingham Palace which celebrated outstanding contribution to the UK primary education system.
